OET is generally more practical for nurses because the content uses real clinical scenarios — patient handover, nurse-doctor communication, discharge letters, drug administration documentation. IELTS Academic is more general (essays on environment, technology, etc.) but cheaper (~$250 vs $350 for OET) and more widely available across Africa. For most African nurses, OET is the more strategic choice — the vocabulary gap is smaller because you already know clinical English.
